Duncan McGuire and Michelle Cooper Awarded

College Soccer’s Top Honor

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (Jan. 6, 2023) – Creighton junior forward Duncan McGuire and Duke sophomore forward Michelle Cooper were named the winners of the 2022 Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) Hermann Trophy, on Friday at the MAC’s annual banquet.

McGuire (Omaha, Neb.) led the nation in goals (23) and points (50) in NCAA Division I men’s soccer and Cooper (Clarkston, Mich.) tallied 19 goals and 11 assists in 21 starts this season.

The MAC Hermann Trophy, a 10-pound crystal soccer ball awarded annually since 1967, honors the United Soccer Coaches National Players of the Year in NCAA Division I men’s and women’s soccer based on voting conducted by member coaches.

McGuire set the Creighton single-season record in goals (23) this season, while picking up United Soccer Coaches Second Team All-America honors. He helped propel his team forward in the College Cup with four goals and one assist across four tournament games. In the 2022 MLS Super Draft, McGuire was selected sixth overall to Orlando City. Runners-up for the men’s award were Syracuse senior forward Levonte Johnson (Brampton, Ontario) and Duke junior midfielder Peter Stroud (Chester, N.J.).

Cooper, a previous MAC Hermann semifinalist (2021), earned both ACC Offensive Player of the Year and United Soccer Coaches First Team All-America honors in her sophomore season. She collected one of the best individual seasons in Duke history with a school-record 49 points. This year’s runners-up for the women’s award were Notre Dame sophomore midfielder Korbin Albert (Grayslake, Ill.) and Florida State senior midfielder Jenna Nighswonger (Huntington Beach, Calif.).

The Missouri Athletic Club to Present College Soccer’s Top Award – Jan. 6

Soccer Hall of Famer Alexi Lalas will be the featured guest

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (Jan. 3, 2023) – The Missouri Athletic Club’s Hermann Trophy presented by Mungenast St. Louis Acura and Alton Toyota will be awarded to the top male and female collegiate soccer players in the nation on Friday, Jan. 6. The crystal soccer ball trophy represents the highest individual achievement in the sport. Many of the biggest names in American soccer, including Mia Hamm, Christen Press, Claudio Reyna, and Alexi Lalas, have won the award.

The finalists for the 2022 men’s MAC Hermann Trophy are Levonte Johnson (Syracuse), Duncan McGuire (Creighton), and Peter Stroud (Duke). The finalists for the women’s award are Korbin Albert (Notre Dame), Michelle Cooper (Duke), and Jenna Nighswonger (Florida State). Alexi Lalas, the 1991 MAC Hermann Trophy winner, U.S. Soccer Hall of Famer, and Fox Sports soccer analyst, will be the featured speaker.

2022 Men’s MAC Hermann Trophy Finalists Announced

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (Dec. 15, 2022) – United Soccer Coaches and the Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) announced the men’s finalists for the 2022 MAC Hermann Trophy, based on voting by NCAA Division I men’s soccer coaches, on Thursday.

The three men’s finalists are Syracuse senior forward Levonte Johnson (Brampton, Ontario), Creighton junior forward Duncan McGuire (Omaha, Neb.), and Duke junior midfielder Peter Stroud (Chester, N.J.).

Johnson earned All-ACC First Team honors and tallied 11 goals for Syracuse this season. McGuire is the leader in goals and points in NCAA Division I men's soccer and set the Creighton single season record in goals with 23. Stroud is the ACC Midfielder of the Year and received United Soccer Coaches All-America First Team honors.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (Dec. 8, 2022) – United Soccer Coaches and the Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) announced the women’s finalists for the 2022 MAC Hermann Trophy, based on voting by NCAA Division I women’s soccer coaches, on Thursday.

The three women’s finalists are Notre Dame sophomore midfielder Korbin Albert (Grayslake, Ill.), Duke sophomore forward Michelle Cooper (Clarkston, Mich.), and Florida State senior midfielder Jenna Nighswonger (Huntington Beach, Calif.).

Albert is the ACC Midfielder of the Year and scored 16 goals for the Fighting Irish this season. 2022 Men's Hermann Trophy Watch List Announced

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Aug. 25, 2022) – United Soccer Coaches announced the 38 NCAA Men’s Division I college soccer players named to the 2022 Hermann Trophy Watch List on Thursday.

Leading this year's watch list is University of New Hampshire junior midfielder Yannick Bright, the only 2021 Hermann semi-finalist returning to play this fall.

A total of 11 of the players on the list earned previous All-America recognition from United Soccer Coaches: University of Tulsa senior defender Mariano Fazio, Indiana senior defender Daniel Munie, West Virginia junior defender Bjarne Thiesen, University of New Hampshire junior midfielder Yannick Bright, Loyola Marymount senior midfielder Noel Caliskan, Hofstra fifth-year senior midfielder Hendrik Hebbeker, University of Vermont fifth-year senior midfielder Alex Nagy, University of Pittsburgh senior midfielder Valentin Noel, Duke junior midfielder Peter Stroud, Missouri State senior midfielder Kian Yari, and University of New Hampshire fifth-year senior Tola Showunmi.

Hebbeker, Nagy, and Showunmi are all taking advantage of the NCAA decision granting an additional season of competition for student-athletes following the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic during the 2020-21 academic year.

The Hermann Trophy, presented annually by the Missouri Athletic Club, is the nation’s highest individual honor recognizing the National Player of the Year as determined by the voting of Division I coaches who are members of United Soccer Coaches.

2022 Women's Hermann Trophy Watch List Announced 

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Aug. 18, 2022) – United Soccer Coaches announced the 60 NCAA Women’s Division I college soccer players named to the 2022 Hermann Trophy Watch List on Thursday.

Highlighting this year's watch list are four Hermann semi-finalists from last year returning to play this fall: Senior goalkeeper Ashley Orkus (University of Mississippi), senior midfielder Croix Bethune (University of Southern California), fifth-year senior forward Messiah Bright (TCU), and sophomore forward Michelle Cooper (Duke). Bright is returning to TCU after taking advantage of the NCAA decision granting an additional season of competition for student-athletes following the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic during the 2020-21 academic year.

A total of 10 of the players on the list earned previous All-America recognition from United Soccer Coaches, including two-time All-Americans Senior goalkeeper Ashley Orkus (University of Mississippi), junior defender Megan Bornkamp (Clemson), and junior midfielder Lia Godfrey (University of Virginia). Wake Forest junior goalkeeper Kaitlyn Parks, UNC senior defender Maycee Bell, TCU graduate forward Messiah Bright, sophomore Duke forward Michelle Cooper, Loyola-Chicago senior forward Megan Nemec, Brown University forward Brittany Raphino, and forward junior Jaida Thomas were all named 2021 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Women's All-Americans.
